History of the Community Partners

In 2000, Hamilton Local School District (HLSD) was selected to participate in a statewide school improvement project funded by the Martha Holden Jennings Foundation.  One component of the HLSD improvement plan was developing a team to focus on community involvement.  The original community team met quarterly and was a mixture of district personnel and representatives of local business and government.

With the assistance of a community involvement facilitator from Communities-In-Schools, the team identified a need to expand into the faith and social service sectors.  In the fall of 2002, the community team evolved into the Community Partners and began meeting on a monthly basis.  Leadership also shifted from a school district administrator to a community member.

The purpose of the Community Partners is to support education in the community by focusing on building relationships among members, identifying existing resources, and developing a plan to meet identified needs.  As a result, the Community Partners have provided mentors, tutors, volunteers, assistance to families in need, literacy classes for adults, annual leadership seminars, space for meetings and classes, and a network among members.  The Community Partners became an official nonprofit organization in August 2006 and is now known as the Community Partners of Southern Franklin County.
